Thank God its Monday!

disgruntled, underpaid, over worked, underappreciated, micromanaged and uber annoyed

That’ how most people feel on a Monday morning.  But lately, in the entrepreneur and freelancer community, I have noticed a trend towards TGIM (Thank God It’s Monday)- a shift in the attitude we offer to start the week.  This of course, is in direct response to the TGIF motto  (a mentality that if you can just get to Friday and the next weekend, you will be OK).

Work sucks and life is lived on the weekends.

Says who?! What about the idea that weekends are the down time we need to attack the week ahead and live in our purpose bright and early every Monday through Friday?

Career 

-noun  1. an occupation or profession, esp. one requiring special training followed as one’s lifework: He sought a career as a lawyer.
2. a person’s progress or general course of action through life or through a phase of life, as in some profession or undertaking: His career as a soldier ended with the armistice. 

We want the career, we settle for “the man” or a job. We want to devote our lives to a mission we find worthy, and instead end up slaving away for someone else’s best interests, usually at minimal benefit to ourselves. (see “Independently Unemployed part 1”)

Special Training is Bull

You don’t need special training to live in your purpose on purpose. (Yes some professions require licensing and degrees, but you don’t need a license to be awesome. Trust).

You already know everything you need to know. Everyone starts at the beginning of a hopeful career path.  A job can help you to:

1. Gain some work experience and understand the world of business and how to navigate with different people, personalities and priorities and
   
2. Better understand who you are and what you want to accomplish as a valuable contributor to society

Everyone toils for a little while, hence why you need to be careful about where you choose to plant your flag in your early working days. (Every job interview, you are interviewing them too remember). But remember, your job is not your life, and most times it’s not your purpose either. 

Use the weekends to get ready to absorb as much as you can, as fast as you can. Learn as much as you can to contribute to the world the best you can starting with each and every Monday.

And do it as quickly as possible.
